The Year of Joy
When you write a blog, you can write anything you want. You can also dub the New Year anything you want. I hereby dub 2024 “The Year of Joy.” I realize that life is full of ups and downs, and in each year, we will lose people we love. These are times of appropriate grieving. Even so, let’s look forward to and celebrate the happy times we will also inevitably have. I had some wonderful times at the end of 2023 when I visited my daughter in NYC for Christmas. Also, when you write a blog, you can force views of your vacation photos, er, I mean, share your NYC photos with others.
In NYC, there is never enough time to do everything I want. Still, we saw a lot of cool stuff. First of all, we saw “Some Like It Hot” on Broadway, which was awesome because my daughter made some of the costumes for the show. We also took in The Rockettes, which was a delightful show. During the show, some youngish lady next to me was constantly looking at her phone and talking to her date (or husband, whoever it was). Why was she even there if she wasn’t going to watch the show? Still, I refused to let her steal my joy of the wonderful singing and dancing unfolding before me. The two little children on my daughter’s left were better behaved than that young woman.
We window-shopped and went to several different museums. We also visited the NY Public Library.
We also went on a tour of Manhattan from a car. I felt so fancy riding around in style in NYC!
The Little Island Park was wonderful and well-conceived. Although there were a lot of stairs involved, there was always a ramp option that led to the same place.
The Edge is a place where you can see NYC from 100 floors up in the sky. The lady who admitted us said there was 0 visibility, so we were welcome to exchange our tickets for another day. We were already there, so we used our tickets for that day. There was lots of fog, but visibility was not actually 0.
I’m glad my daughter lives in NYC so I have the perfect excuse to visit there as often as I can. But who needs an excuse? If you get the chance to do something you have always wanted to do, take it. Chase joy. It’s not that hard to catch. Please enjoy 2024 as much as you can! And please share your favorite joys from 2023 with me in the comments.
